Founded as a hobby by friends Burt Williams and Ed Selyem in 1979, this winery defined California Pinot Noir in the 1980s. The founders sold in 1998 to John Dyson of New York’s Millbrook Winery. Dyson recently finished his ownership transition, selling a majority stake to respected Burgundy producer Domaine Faiveley. Winemaker Jeff Mangahas, hired in 2011, continues to oversee a portfolio of two dozen different Pinot Noirs. Relying on a modest percentage of new oak, the Eastside Road Neighbors bottling delivers the winery’s signature precocious fruit and energetic feel while capturing the textbook profile of Russian River Valley Pinot Noir.
Tasting Note
This red is packed, featuring juicy and delicious mulberry, blackberry and cherry pâte de fruit notes that ripple with energy, while rose hip, rooibos tea and licorice snap accents fuel the finish. Shows a gloss of toast for added effect, as the fruit easily keeps the upper hand throughout. Drink now through 2034.—James Molesworth
