Top 10 of 2024
Wine Spectator’s annual Top 100 list—our editors’ picks for the most exciting new releases reviewed over the past year—encapsulates the world of wine, representing everything from stellar vintages to leadership changes at wineries. Each year’s Top 100 offers insights on tradition and innovation in wine regions around the globe, from new trends and emerging players to familiar names achieving higher quality.
In our 2024 blind tastings, our editors reviewed nearly 10,500 wines, of which 5,765 rated 90 points or higher. This was our starting point for selecting the Top 100, evaluated for quality (based on score), value (based on price), availability (cases either made or imported into the United States) and, most importantly, the energy and story behind the wine—what we call the X-factor.
Our list is a broad picture of the year in wine releases, covering both highly rated bottlings and incredible values. The 2021 vintage is a major protagonist this year: It was an excellent vintage for California Cabernet Sauvignon and in Tuscany, helping Italy capture 20 percent of the entries. On the other hand, 2021 was more difficult in France, reducing the country’s usual prominence on the list.
Thirty-five wines earned a spot on the Top 100 for the first time this year. Though nearly 20 percent of the wines are priced $100 or more, 23 percent cost $25 or less. Overall, the average score is 93 points, the average price $68. We hope you enjoy the exciting list of iconic wineries, top values and emerging talents that make up Wine Spectator’s Top 100 of 2024!
