Owner Mike Etzel started planting Beaux Frères’ original 24 acres in 1988 on a steep south-facing slope on Ribbon Ridge, near the north end of Oregon’s Willamette Valley, using the Pommard and Wädenswil Pinot Noir clones that dominated the state’s vineyard-scape at the time. The first vintage was 1991, and Beaux Frères soon became an Oregon standard-bearer. As the early opulent style gradually achieved more elegance and transparency, the wines continued to earn outstanding and classic ratings. The 2014 brims with rich fruit and floral flavors that present themselves in layers, coming together into a supple, expressive balance.
Tasting Note
Supple, expressive and multilayered, exhibiting flavors of plum, currant, pomegranate and violet that come together harmoniously, persisting into the long and exceptionally well-balanced finish. Drink now through 2024.—Harvey Steiman
