Oregon has made serious strides with Chardonnay this decade, and a growing number of wines excite with depth and lively energy. Domaine Serene has produced Chardonnay since 1998 and now makes five single-vineyard versions from designated portions of its 200-plus acres of vines in the Dundee Hills appellation. Beginning in 2010, owners Ken and Grace Evenstad blended selected barrels from these individual vineyards into an Evenstad Reserve bottling, following the successful format of the winery’s similarly named Pinot Noir. The 2014 is the best one yet, taut, crisp, sleek and expressive, with a startlingly long finish.

Tasting Note

Focused and expressive, this is layered with wet stone, tangy citrus, pear and green guava flavors that swirl through an expansive finish, gaining momentum and extra dimensions with each sip. Drink now through 2024.—Harvey Steiman
